VILT Projects
VILT Projects
Over the last four years I've been involved in three major VILT projects for outside clients, while also designing and delivering in-house VILT on a regular basis. These VILT experiences led me to realize I wanted to be an Instructional Designer.
Zoom Training
For this project, I trained three batches of healthcare union employees to use Zoom effectively. The training included some learning theory, practice using Zoom tools, and interactive group activities to help grow people's skills and confidence suring the training. I also delivered job aids and microlearning videos as part of the project.
Culinary School
Helping a culinary school develop their instructors and curriculum was a blast! Apart from learning that bananas are an herb related to ginger, I was able to help culinary school instructors and their admin team at many levels. I performed hours of class observations, staff interviews, and a needs analysis. My final report outlined current practices, areas for development, and opportunities for the organization to leverage existing assets and talents. Of course I learned something about cooking, so it was a win-win.
Librarian PD
Librarians are hands-on knowledge workers with a critical role in supporting communities at all levels of society. For this VILT, I was able to advise a large group of professionals on how to think about their clients differently through the lens of language and cognitive challenges. I gave them strategies to help them with their understanding of patrons, and how to maximize their time and efficiency as vital public resources.
